From Seville to Gran Canaria – a week of sailing pleasure and learning on board Sørlandet
What a week we've had! After departing Seville early on November 18th, we began our journey down the Guadalquivir River before heading towards the Atlantic.
🌬 From calm to storm: After a calm start with little wind, we finally got open sea conditions – and Sørlandet showed what she can do. We have seen double digit speeds and set a record with 223 nautical miles in 24 hours !
🤝 Meeting at sea: A highlight was when we caught up with the Dutch sailing ship Eendracht . Two proud sailing ships side by side – a magical moment for everyone on board.
📚 Learning and Discipline: Between watches and sailing, the students have worked on academic subjects and the Jungmann program. Life at sea is about more than sailing – it's about cooperation, responsibility, and community.
🍴 Friday tacos and good vibes: Even on the high seas, we keep to the traditions. Taco Friday tasted extra good with the wind at our backs and heading towards Las Palmas.
⚓ Arrival in Las Palmas: Sunday afternoon we dropped anchor outside the marina, ready for new experiences and the start of the ARC 2025 – a spectacular sight with hundreds of sailboats setting off on an Atlantic crossing.
This is more than a journey – it is an experience that shapes young people and keeps a 100-year-old tradition alive.
