Sørlandet is home!
Saturday, May 30th at 11:00 AM, the training ship Sørlandet docked in Kristiansand after the tenth school year with A+ World Academy at sea. On board were 72 students from around 10 nations – four of whom came from Agder, with roots in Kristiansand, Lyngdal and Arendal.
The return marked the end of a year characterized by professional development, international community and strong experiences at sea.
– Sørlandet is more than a ship – it is a unique learning environment where young people develop both professionally and personally through very special experiences, says CEO Knut Arne Gjertsen.
An extraordinary school year
Throughout the year, the students have lived and learned closely together on board – across cultures and nationalities. Everyday life at sea demands cooperation, responsibility and perseverance, but also provides experiences that few other educational courses can offer.
–The most important thing we learn on board is not just about academic subjects, but about ourselves – how we collaborate, handle challenges and grow as people, say the students.
Life on board is characterized by a strong sense of community, where students share both challenges and experiences of mastery – from demanding weather conditions to proud moments when the ship is sailing at full sail.

Strong local connection
Before Sørlandet It is particularly gratifying that four of this year's students come from Agder. Their return represents an important link between a global school and the local roots the ship has always had.
– We are proud to bring Sørlandet home to the region it belongs to. At the same time, the students from Agder show how this part of the world is also an active part of a larger, international community, says Gjertsen.
A living cultural heritage
Sørlandet , the world's oldest sailing full-rigged ship in operation, has been a learning arena for young people and an important ambassador for Norwegian culture and seafaring since 1927. The ship combines tradition with modern education through the A+ World Academy.
The return to Kristiansand gave the audience a unique opportunity to experience the ship and meet some of the students.
