voyage -update from Saint-Malo to Vigo

🚢 From Saint-Malo to Vigo – a voyage with wind in the sails and dignity in the heart 🌊

Sørlandet has completed another meaningful stage in the A+ World Academy program. 93 people on board – 72 students and 21 crew members – have sailed 658 nautical miles from Saint-Malo to Vigo, with both engine and full sail guidance through Biscay.

🌬️ Weather and wind:

  • Started with northerly winds and weak current
  • Increasing winds and good speed in Biscay
  • Sunshine and a tailwind allowed us to pass the northwestern tip of Spain before the headwind arrived.

🧭 The voyage in numbers:

  • Total distance: 658 nm
  • Average speed: 4.5 knots
  • Arrival Vigo: 15 October at 10:30 LT
  • Last position before anchor: N 42°13.3' W 008°53.3'

Experiences on board:

  • Sunday dinner in Banjer
  • Fire drill with breathing training
  • Student Council Meeting
  • Galley competition with dedicated cooking teams
  • Good mood – despite a little seasickness and fatigue

🕯️ A dignified farewell to Adrian Along the way, we marked the passing of our former bosun and friend, Adrian. The flag was hoisted at half mast upon departure, and after a symbolic ceremony at sea – with a ship's bell and horn – it was hoisted to the top. Eight strikes of the bell – a maritime sign that the watch is over.

This is not just a journey – it is a lifetime experience. Thanks to everyone on board for their efforts, and to Adrian for everything he gave. Sørlandet .
