Strengthened knowledge and pride: The school ship Sørlandet stands strong

A recent population survey conducted by Opinion on behalf of the Foundation The Ship Sørlandet shows that the school ship Sørlandet has a solid foundation in the population of Agder.

Over half of those surveyed mention Sørlandet spontaneously when asked about Norwegian sailing training ships – a marked increase since February. The ship is by far the most well-known in the region, and familiarity increases with age.

The survey also shows that as many as 9 out of 10 believe Sørlandet is an important cultural heritage that should be preserved, and 86 percent see the ship as an inspiration and pride for Agder. The ship is also perceived as an important arena for experiences and a good educational opportunity for young people.

There is still great interest in participating in the celebration of Sørlandet's 100th anniversary in 2027. Almost half of the population in Agder say they would like to participate if invited.

The survey was conducted among 1002 residents of Agder aged 15 and over, and provides a clear picture: The school ship Sørlandet is not just a sailing cultural monument – it is a living symbol of pride, tradition and faith in the future in the region.
