H.K.H. Crown Princess Mette-Marit extends the patronage period for "Sørlandet"

The foundation The Ship Sørlandet has received the happy news that HRH Crown Princess Mette-Marit will continue to be patron of " Sørlandet " in the period 2021 - 2025. We are very proud of that!

There is a longstanding tradition of Royal patronage. In earlier, more turbulent times, patronage often involved physical protection by bodyguards or a royal letter of protection. Today Royal patronage serves to raise public awareness of an organisation or a specific event that supports a worthy cause.

"We greatly appreciate the commitment that the Crown Princess shows in this way to the ship," says Director Knut Arne Gjertsen. "The recognition that a royal patronage is inspires and gives us extra energy to complete the maintenance work and develop the new summer program while the pandemic still surrounds us.

When the Norwegian The Ship Sørlandet needed a new ship's deck, a very special material was found in the forests around Elverum. The centuries-old pine forest there contains trees with a core of naturally impregnated wood, perfect for withstanding the marine environment.
