The school ship returned home from a long voyage on 5 June 2022

The school ship Sørlandet coming home after over 9 months on a long trip with A+ World Academy. On board there are 57 students, 8 teachers and a crew of 12.

They have visited St.Malo, Porto de Leixoes, Cartagena, Madeira, las Palmas, Cape Verde, Grenada, Bequia, Saint Martin, Puerto Rico, Bermuda, the Azores, Schvenigen, Elsinore and Skagen before returning home. She is the world's oldest full rig in operational operation. Launched in 1927 from Høivold's mechanical workshop in Otra in Kristiansand.

The shipyard period is scheduled to last from May 20, 2024 to August 25, 2024. The new school year on board begins on August 31, 2024, by which time the ship must be ready. The project is estimated to cost between NOK 32 million and NOK 34 million, depending on whether there are any works that have not been included in the plans. These works are necessary to renew the sailing permits for five more years and be ready to be one of the main attractions during Tall Ships Races Kristiansand 2025. When the Norwegian The Ship Sørlandet needed a new ship's deck, a very special material was found in the forests around Elverum. The centuries-old pine forest there contains trees with a core of naturally impregnated wood, perfect for withstanding the marine environment.
