" Sørlandet " sailed out on 22 August and has since mostly stayed in the North Sea and Skagerak. Here the students have had a great opportunity to get used to life at sea and, most importantly, learned and practiced how to sail a full-rigger. They also visited the Oil Museum in Stavanger when the ship stopped by to, among other things, get supplies, new life rafts and adjustment of the means of communication on board.

- This comes in handy when they can finally set sail for international ports and cross the Atlantic several times, says Knut Arne Gjertsen, director of the Foundation.

On Friday 10 September, 30 students received an appointment at the vaccination center in Kristiansand. They are transported back and forth in their own bus. The ship will remain at the quay until the next day so that the students can relax and get over any side effects from the coronary vaccine.

After many years of effort for a crew of 80 people, the washing machines on board have seen their best days. That's why the Venke and Walter Grov families are embracing brand new machines. These are installed to everyone's great delight while the ship is at the quay this time.

- We are deeply grateful for this gift from the Grov family. Support from private individuals is of great importance for the preservation of the ship, says Knut Arne Gjertsen. ‍

On September 11, the school ship goes to sea again for more sailing training before she comes for a trip again a little week later. Then there is a crew change. Finally, she and everyone on board are ready for the school year's big adventure: Approx. 15 international ports and crossing the Atlantic several times. Combined with schooling, it becomes a journey of formation that students will never forget.
